cultural_requirements: Symbol replaces gly for mutants with altered ability to use glycerol as a carbon source. Scored on slants of minimal synthetic cross medium (1134) with 2% glycerol versus 2% sucrose as the carbon source (1102). Poor growth of the wild type on glycerol medium is markedly improved by the addition of 0.5% L-asparagine and 100 µg of ascorbic acid per ml (189); this might facilitate testing.
