cultural_requirements: Ergosterol mutants have been detected by resistance to nystatin and other polyene,antibiotics. The known mutants are female sterile. Intercrosses for allelism tests can be made, however, by using a heterokaryon as the female parent (419, 699). Ergosterol biosynthesis is illustrated in Fig. 13.
