cultural_requirements: VIR. Between pan-2 and trp-2 (247). Resistant to p-fluorophenylalanine. The only allele, UM300, was found in a variant unable to take up arginine to satisfy requirement of arg mutations. This blockage is manifest mainly when ammonium is in the medium. Uptake of many other metabolites (amino acids, uridine, sugars) is also affected. Primary defect unknown (247; R. H. Davis, personal communication). Called UM300 or fpr(UM300). Not tested for allelism with mts or mod-5, which map in the same area and cause increased rather than decreased uptake.
