male barren-3

locus: mb-3

locus_name: male barren-3

organism_type: B

chromosome_number: I

chromosome_side: R

link_group: IR

cultural_requirements: IR. Linked to cyh-1 (18%), al-1 (2%), and mb-2 (6%) (1100, PB; J.F. Leslie, personal communication). Perithecial development is blocked when an mb-2 mutant is used as the male parent to fertilize an mb+ female; many perithecia are produced, mostly small, brown, without beaks or ascospores; a few perithecia mature and produce ascospores (1100). Perithecia are normal and fully fertile when an mb-2 mutant is used as the female parent and fertilized by an mb+ strain (1128). Development of perithecia may be slower than normal, however, when an mb-2 mutant is used as the female (N.B. Raju, personal communication). Homozygous barren (PB). Recessive in heterokaryons, complementing mb-1and mb-3(1101). Six occurrences.
