The vib-1 locus encodes a nuclear localized putative transcriptional regulator. HET-C heterocomplex formation occurs in the vib-1 mutant, indicating that VIB-1 functions downstream of HET-C heterocomplex formation and may mediate some of the phenotypic responses to heterokaryon incompatibility at the transcriptional level.
