Locus Cultural Requirements Link Group Type
het-c^ORTwo alleles found in lab strains were originally called het-C and het-c. Following the discovery and demonstration of a third allele, het-c^PA, the symbol het-C was changed to het-c^OR and the symbol het-c was changed to het-c^EM. Three specificity types have been recognized and shown to be polymorphic in nature. These are designated het-c^OR, het-c^GR, and het-c^PA.B
vib-1Mutations in the vib-1 locus suppress growth inhibition and conidiation repression by genetic differences at het-c and mat and reduce HCD. The vib-1 locus encodes a nuclear localized putative transcriptional regulator. HET-C heterocomplex formation occurs in the vib-1 mutant, indicating that VIB-1 functions downstream of HET-C heterocomplex formation and may mediate some of the phenotypic responses to heterokaryon incompatibility at the transcriptional level.B
